Why JoJo Siwa Wasn’t Invited to the Kids Choice Awards

JoJo Siwa wasn’t invited to the 2022 Kids Choice Awards, and event hosted by Nickelodeon, whom she has worked closely with for years. “A lot of you have been asking me why I’m not at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards tonight, and the answer is very simple — I wasn’t invited,” JoJo said in a video posted to Instagram. “I’m not sure why, but I just didn’t get an invite.” She also reiterated this in the caption, writing “A lot of you have been asking why I’m not at the Nickelodeon Kid [sic] Choice Awards tonight, I don’t want anyone to think it was my choice not to go…. I simply didn’t get an invite :(.”

Nickelodeon doesn’t appear to have responded to JoJo’s post, but the fact that she wasn’t invited is beyond not cool. At this point JoJo is basically the face of this Network and fans (plus, just people in general) are understandably upset, accusing Nickelodeon of homophobia.

This isn’t the first time JoJo has had issues with Nickelodeon. Back in September 2021, she claimed they were preventing her from performing certain songs on her D.R.E.A.M. tour, saying in since-deleted tweets, “I go out on tour in January. My movie musical was just released (with 6 new original songs)… Nickelodeon told me today that I’m not allowed to perform/add any of the songs from the film into my show. These are MY songs, MY voice, MY writing. Does this seem fair???” She also added, “There is no reason that this music should not be included. Working for a company as a real human being treated as only a brand is fun until it’s not.”

Thus far, Nickelodeon hasn’t explained their decision not to invite JoJo to the Kids Choice Awards.
