Why Did the Entire Internet Think Fredrik Robertsson Was Jared Leto at the 2022 Met Gala?

Fredrik Robertsson accidentally played a big trick on all of Twitter when people mistook him for Jared Leto at the 2022 Met Gala.

Robertsson, who is a big Swedish couture client, arrived on the Met Gala red carpet on Monday evening for fashion’s biggest night wearing an otherworldly look by Iris Van Herpen. Earlier that day, he also shared a photo of himself in his bathrobe getting ready for the event on Instagram, writing, “We are getting ready for the Met Gala 2022 and I am so lucky to have my Swedish dream team in New York with me – transforming me into…well – you will see. Thank you @j_hellstrom @bjornaxen @lindahallberg @lhcosmetics @fridaselkirk for being part of this moment none of us will forget and to @ea_czyz for capturing it all – we made it!”

While the creative director didn’t plan on impersonating the actor, he was quickly incorrectly labeled as Leto by both Getty Images and reporters covering the event. However, as he moved down the red carpet, both soon realized he was not in fact Leto. Especially when the WeCrashed star arrived dressed as yet another one of his doppelgangers, Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele, just moments later.

This isn’t the first time the fashion plate has caught the industry and the internet’s attention for his outfits. He first gained notoriety when Vogue writer Christian Allaire posted a story in January 2019 asking, “Who Was the Fabulous Mystery Man at Valentino’s Couture Show?” Robertsson responded to the article on Instagram, writing, “You do know how to make a boy in a dress feel special.” And from there, he was profiled by the magazine ahead of last year’s Met Gala about his love of truly over-the-top fashion.

“A lot of people think I dress for attention,” Robertsson told the magazine. “I don’t. I just happen to love fashion and have always liked the idea that what I wear changes how people look at and think of me,” including mixing him up with an Oscar-winning actor every now and then.
