Tom Hanks is joined by cat Smeagol at A Man Called Otto screening

Tom Hanks was accompanied by his furry feline co-star Smeagol as he attended a screening of his new film A Man Called Otto at Dotdash Meredith in Manhattan on Monday.

The actor, 66, was accompanied by his wife Rita Wilson and their youngest son Truman for the latest event to promote the dramedy.

Tom – who just weighed in on the nepo-baby debate – opted for a black pinstripe suit with a blue necktie while Truman, 26, wore a Tarantino-style black suit with a black necktie to the family film festivities.

Hanks stars as the titular grumpy old man in Marc Forster’s Pittsburgh-set dramedy, which has only earned $12.7M of its $50M budget back since opening in limited US theaters on December 30.

A Man Called Otto is technically a remake of the 2016 Swedish film A Man Called Ove, which was based on Fredrik Backman’s 2012 book of the same name.

Meanwhile, Truman scored his first major speaking role playing the younger version of Otto Anderson.

Hanks normally remains behind the camera, working as a DP assistant on Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story as well as a film loader on Wes Anderson’s upcoming movie Asteroid City, which will star his famous father.

The grandparents-of-three are also parents of 32-year-old rapper-fitness trainer Chet Hanks – who celebrated one year of sobriety on September 13 after brushes with the law, a rehab stint, and cultural appropriation.

And Tom has two older children – Colin, 45; and Elizabeth Ann, 40 – from his nine-year marriage to the late Samantha Lewes, which ended in 1987.

‘Look, this is the family business. This is what we’ve been doing forever. It’s what all of our kids grew up in,’ Hanks told The Sun last Wednesday of the nepo-baby debate.

‘We have four kids. They’re all very creative. They’re all involved in some brand of storytelling. And if we were a plumbing supply business or if we ran the florist shop down the street, the whole family would be putting in time at some point – even if it was just inventory at the end of the year.’

The two-time Oscar winner continued: ‘The thing that doesn’t change no matter what happens, no matter what your last name is, is whether it works or not. I mean, that’s the issue anytime any of us go off and try to tell a fresh story or create something that has a beginning and a middle and an end.

‘Doesn’t matter what our last names are. We have to do the work in order to make that a true and authentic experience for the audience. And that’s a much bigger task than worrying about whether anyone’s going to try and scathe us or not.’
