Timothée Chalamet’s ‘Bones and All’

What have Call Me By Your Name duo Timothée Chalamet and Luca Guadagnino been cooking up for you? Oh, just this little movie called Bones and All that looks romantic and sexy and uhhhhhh terrifying? Bones and All is based on a coming-of-age novel published in 2015 by Camille DeAngelis with a killer premise. Here’s everything you need to know about the book and the movie that everyone will definitely be talking about this fall.

Okay, so what is Bones and All about?

It’s set in the 1980s and follows two lovers named Maren and Lee on a road trip. They also happen to be cannibals. The girl, Maren, is a serial killer who struggles with a compulsion to literally consume anyone who is too attracted to her or affectionate towards her. This can get tricky because she’s a funny and polite teenage girl that people are naturally drawn to—YA problems, am I right? Maren runs away to search for her father and meets fellow cannibals including Lee.

Cannibalism (fictional) sure is having a moment, between this and Yellowjackets and Fresh, huh?! Not to mention, a disgraced actor’s alleged fascination with the subject is connected to some of the people involved in the film. What an awkward (I hope) coincidence. I’m gonna rewatch Hannibal with Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen and not think about it.

Who is involved in the Bones and All movie?

As many of you may already know, the film stars Timothée and is directed by Luca. It’s a Call Me By Your Name reunion, which is nice because we may never get that sequel. It also stars Taylor Russell from Lost in Space and the 2019 A24 film Waves. Other cast members include Chloë Sevigny, director David Gordon Green, Call Me By Your Name good dad Michael Stühlbarg, Mark Rylance, and TikTok star/actress Francesca Scorsese.

Worried this is gonna be all feels and no fears? Don’t fret, because the screenwriter David Kajganich has the horror chops. He wrote the screenplay for the 2018 remake of Suspiria (which Luca also directed), created AMC’s The Terror, and tons of other scary flicks under his belt.

Is there a trailer for Bones and All?

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Sure is! Take a look. Anyone else getting Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibes from that one shot? Only this time, obvs, it’s the teenagers who are the so-called monsters.

When is Bones and All coming out?

The film will be released on November 23, 2022 just in time for *gulp* Thanksgiving.

Any, no pun intended, leftovers?

The film is premiering at Venice Film Festival in September, so be sure to look out for some lewks from the cast at that glamorous event. In the meantime, have you watched Luca Guadagnino’s miniseries We Are Who We Are on HBO Max? It has angsty teens and a similar aesthetic to Bones and All just based on the trailer alone. I can’t promise any cannibalism, but it might be worth checking out if you’re excited!
