This Week the Best Dressed Brought the Runways to the Streets

Spring 2022’s haute couture shows drew Hollywood’s talents to Paris, where they brought their A-game to the front row. The paparazzi went wild when Julia Fox made her couture debut at Schiaparelli alongside Kanye West and photographer Richie Shazam. In her glossy calfskin coat dress with built-in bustier, Fox kept with the sexy, futuristic aesthetic she’s been slowly perfecting. When she and Shazam—who was resplendent in a shiny hoodie jacket and golden platforms—walked down the steps of the Petit Palais, everyone on the scene stopped in their tracks.

At each collection, a celebrity standout reflected the aesthetic of the house. Dior’s Musee Rodin extravaganza saw Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch step into the spotlight wearing Maria Grazia-Chiuri’s peppy take the power suit. Petsch’s bright green and white jacket and matching skirt from the spring 2022 ready-to-wear collection were imbued with youthful energy. Similarly, Margot Robbie kept things short and sweet at Chanel in a mod white double-breasted boucle coat worn over a sparkling gold minidress, a combination that reflected the French nonchalance of Virginie Viard’s designs. The mood at Fendi was darker, with Kim Jones referencing cinema thrillers and cerebral sci-fi. At the same time, the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Naomi Rapace, sat front row in a transparent black lace gown.

In New York, one designer was the clear favorite of the week. Christopher John Rogers’s effervescent pre-fall collection landed on Cynthia Nixon and Kate Hudson. Rogers’s rainbow sweater knit dress proved the perfect choice for Nixon to talk up her two HBO hits, And Just Like That and The Gilded Age on Watch What Happens Live. En route to The Drew Barrymore Show, the perennially upbeat Hudson spread the cheer in Rogers’ oversized sweater and maxi skirt, both in an electric shade of green guaranteed to elicit smiles.
