Sylvester Stallone has denied he and his estranged wife Jennifer Flavin decided to end their relationship after he bought a dog against her will.
Instead, Stallone, 76, has told TMZ that he and Flavin, 54, simply grew apart.
“We did not end the relationship on such a trivial argument,” the Rocky actor said.
“We just went in different directions.”

He continued: “I have the highest respect for Jennifer. I will always love her. She’s an amazing woman. She’s the nicest human being I’ve ever met.”
Stallone explained to the publication that he and Flavin had “issues” over how to care for his new dog, Dwight, since they often travel a lot while moving between their homes in LA and Palm Beach. He is also often absent while shooting films and projects.
However he was adamant the dog is not the reason for the end of their 25-year marriage.
News of the pair’s split came today, after Flavin reportedly filed for divorce on Friday, August 19.
In her filing, the former model and business owner revealed her reason for divorce, claiming “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken”.
Paperwork obtained by British magazine Closer Weekly revealed that Flavin is seeking “exclusive use and occupancy of the marital residence” and requesting that certain assets and liabilities they’ve accumulated during their decades-long marriage be “equitably distributed”.
The move comes after speculation their relationship was on rocky waters, following a particularly biting post made by Flavin recently on Instagram.
In the post, Flavin shares a photo of her and her three daughters, Sophia, 25, Sistine, 24, and Scarlet, 20, calling them her “priority”.
“These girls are my priority ❤️ nothing else matters. The 4 of us forever 🤍🙏🏻 #truth #family #forever,” she captioned the photo.
Just a week later, Stallone made the irreversible decision to replace his iconic shoulder tattoo of Flavin with a tattoo of a dog. Specifically, his much-loved co-star Butkus, who featured with him in the Rocky films.
In his statement to TMZ, Stallone insists he merely reworked the tattoo as it “got messed up”, with the new image of a dog aiming to be a quick fix. He reportedly still has a large tattoo of Flavin on his back.

In a statement to People, Flavin addressed her decision to divorce the movie star.
“I’m sad to announce that after 25 years of marriage I have filed for divorce from my husband Sylvester Stallone,” the 54-year-old said.
“While we will no longer be married, I will always cherish the more than 30-year relationship that we shared, and I know we are both committed to our beautiful daughters.”
