Gilded glamour, the dress code of the 2022 Met Gala, welcomed guests to show off their interpretation of a sort of white tie grandeur reflective of the late 19th-century style. With that, the evening saw dreamy archival pieces (we’re looking at you Kim Kardashian, who donned a shimmering dress worn by Marilyn Monroe, in 1962), lots of sparkling embellishments, and many a lengthy train.
Complementing the fashion, the beauty choices offered a moment of grandiosity, too. For some, that meant classic vintage-inspired makeup or bedazzled headpieces, while others revealed a dramatic transformation—either way the best beauty looks left us eager to recreate the moment ourselves.
The simplest way to do that? Shop the statement-making lipsticks that amplified the stars’ makeup. There were timeless red lips from the likes of Maude Apatow and Gemma Chan. “We wanted the makeup to complement [Apatow’s dress and diamond choker], so we went with a clean, classic glam, that highlights Maude’s beautiful features and added a jeweled tone lip to play off of the lavish dresses and jewels of the time,” says celebrity makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan who perfected the Euphoria actor’s look. Conversely, some opted for a barely-there or mauvish pink—from Vanessa Hudgens to Gabrielle Union. Others stuck to their strengths: ever the lip liner girl, Megan Thee Stallion etched her lips with a brown liner for her take on a classic nude lip created by celebrity makeup artist Lauren Elise Child.
