Seth Rogen Ushers In the Death of Ties

Last night at Hulu’s Pam and Tommy premiere, Seth Rogen channeled his laid-back attitude into a suit. Neither stiff nor too dressed up, he wore a gray blazer with a pair of pleated trousers by Fear of God and laceless white shoes. He wore a mock turtleneck in lieu of a classic oxford and tie—giving his ensemble a bit of lite, palatable sleaze, and a hint of ’70s and ’80s.

Rogen has been on the tieless frontier for quite some time. At the premiere of Disney’s West Side Story in December, he opted for a black suit with a gray T-shirt and a pair of Nike sneakers. For a more Miami Vice vibe, Rogen dressed up in a white suit and a loose light blue T-shirt at a fundraiser back in November. And when he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this past July, he once again went the route of a T-shirt (gray), suit (black), and clunky pair of sneakers (New Balance).

These days a little bit of louche goes a long way. I often think back to another funny guy who doesn’t do ties: Jonah Hill. At the premiere in Don’t Look Up in December, he wore a light blue suit sans any shirt underneath—just a beaded necklace. There have also been fewer ties on the men’s runways–a loosened-up style that seems to be staying awhile. The less there is on the chest, the more I’m seeing the man.
