Small businesses have been the past, present, and future of American industry for years. They started by fulfilling some of the most basic needs, have become a staple of American industriousness and self-starting, and are becoming something extremely important. This importance comes, in large part, from the internet.

Small Business and the Flight to Digital Growth

Importantly though first, the current state of small businesses should be discussed. The COVID-19 outbreak and following pandemic changed society on a fundamental level. Every industry, individual, and country was changed. Small businesses took the hit of the pandemic particularly hard.

Businesses that had just started had no one to show up, businesses that had been established may have simply lost utility, and even the most essential small businesses found themselves understaffed and overworked. The pandemic led to 30% of all small businesses in America shutting down, a massive number. And even for those that survived, 59% had to lay off a substantial number of employees.

The idea of starting a business in 2020 or 2021 felt near impossible. There is one light in the tunnel though, one beacon of hope for small businesses today. The future of business lies digital agency growth. This is where individuals can go and still put an honest effort into running a business without having to completely throw their lives away.

The idea of a microbusiness has recently risen in popularity due to its practicality. These businesses are made, typically with the intent of growing larger, to serve some small purpose. Today most small businesses are just looking to survive and for any sort of growth, existing businesses really just want to hit the points they may have been hitting pre-pandemic.

How Businesses are Scaling

This is where digital businesses come in as a valuable alternative. When looking at the responsibilities business owners have to hold today, it’s not hard to see why it’s overwhelming. Sales, client management, hiring, team regulation, and for many businesses even delivery itself. Juggling this all as one business owner is not just a challenge, it’s a life commitment.

Small business owners today aren’t even considering the idea of vacation, they have so many responsibilities. Online businesses can help navigate this in a few ways. One, online resources allow for the automation and simplification of a lot of these processes. While most logistical stuff for all businesses is handled online, when everything is moved online it makes it centralized and simple.

Online businesses also can rely on digital services. There are services which will draw out a map for a business and help regulate things like workflow, tech stacks, and metrics. There are, of course, alternatives for physical businesses. The reality is that these will never serve the range of purposes that they can for an online business though.

This is the future of small businesses, the web. As things like crypto, tech industries, and the internet at large continue to grow, there will only be more and more services needed online. The businesses owners of today now can enjoy the comfort of working from home while running a business that is needed more than any physical alternative. It can be stressful to imagine for those that don’t like digital or remote work, but the reality is it’s the future.
