Met Gala 2022: Billionaires Kim Kardashian and Elon Musk chat alongside her beau Pete Davidson

Kim Kardashian and her boyfriend Pete Davidson took the opportunity to catch up with billionaire Elon Musk at the 2022 Met Gala on Monday.

The 41-year-old Kardashians star and the 28-year-old SNL fixture were seen chatting with the Tesla founder and her mother Kris Jenner‘s boyfriend Corey Gamble after walking the red carpet at the event in Manhattan.

Although Kim appeared to be wearing the same dress worn worn nearly 60 years earlier by Marilyn Monroe, she changed into a replica of the iconic outfit once inside the event so as to preserve the timeless treasure.

Kim’s glittering beaded gown was designed by Jean Louis, and has been on display at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum in Orlando, Florida, after the attraction bought it from Julien’s Auction for $4.81 million.

But the reality star’s replica worn inside the event was a perfect copy of the original and didn’t betray its more modern provenance.

The inside of the Met Gala featured a stunning display of wealth, as Kim — who was recently declared a billionaire — was chatting with Elon Musk, who is currently the richest man alive.

He currently has a net worth of $253.6 billion, according to Forbes, while the outlet determined that Kim is worth a still-impressive $1.8 billion.

Kim and Elon appeared to be chatting next to the table where her youngest sister Kyle Jenner was speaking with her mother Kris Jenner. 

Kylie gave a rare view of herself without her backwards baseball cap veil while sitting at her family’s table. She showed off her stunning skin and surprisingly modest makeup while her sisters Khloé and Kim Kardashian blew kisses at the camera.

Gwen Stefani also appeared to be a favorite of the Kardashian–Jenner clan, and she was seen hanging out with both Kim and Kris.

While they appeared to be having a relatively reserved conversation, sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid looked as if they were ready to party inside the Met Gala.

Gigi had changed out of her regal, rippling coat and stripped down to her edgy outfit underneath, a skintight red PVC ensemble with a corset from which her hip bones jutted out.

Bella looked just as edgy in a black Burberry corset with a lace skirt a tights.

Sne was also seen getting chummy with her fellow models and friends Hailey Bieber and Adwoa Aboah. The catwalk star wrapped her arms around both women while they caught up.

Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney showed that she was just as much a fan of corsets with her tiered white dress. She arrived with her costar Maude Apatow, who channeled classic glamour in a sheer black off-the-shoulder dress.

The iconic fashion celebration was an opportunity for A-list friends to be reunited. Kaia Gerber beamed ear-to-ear as she leaned in for a hug with her fellow model friend Karlie Kloss, while her beau Austin Butler stood behind her.

Karlie looked as if she was ready to boogie in her sheer lace dress as she appeared to vogue inside the venue. 

As usual, the stars commemorating the high-fashion evening with plenty of selfies. Naomi Campbell looked as glamorous as ever with jewels on her face as she leaned in with Kerry Washington and Gabrielle Union for a snapshot.

Gabrielle’s husband Dwyane Wade also looked as if he was leaning in to the selfie, though his white suit contrasted their dark ensembles. 

The event had plenty of entertainment too, and Blake Lively and Lin-Manuel Miranda were among the hosts.

They were seen reading from cue cards while addressing the audience. 

Blake was also hosting with her husband Ryan Reynolds, and Regina King rounded out the group of hosts.

While Blake was on stage, her husband Ryan Reynolds was back in the audience where he was hosting former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and James Corden. 

The Met Gala guests were also treated to some guitar pyrotechnics thanks to Lenny Kravitz.

The singer and guitarist mimicked ’70s funk bands with his python boots and snake-print pants and jacket. He wailed on a Gibson Flying V and switched over to a classic Les Paul guitar while wailing on stage.

He saluted the audience with a peace sign at the end of his set while jazz pianist and singer Jon Batiste joined him on stage in a classic black tuxedo. 

The proceedings took a softer turn when country superstar Kacey Musgraves took to the stage to perform.

She had changed out of the black dress with firework accents that she wore on the red carpet. She switched it out for a glamorous white dress with a single shoulder strap and sequined patterns running across it.

Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr. also performed a song for the audience, though his performance was more involved and featured an ensemble of dancers. He wore a white tails jacket with a massive top hat.

There were plenty of other sings are the Met Gala, including Drivers License singer Olivia Rodrigo. She was spotted with Emily Ratajkowski nearby as she watched the performances in a shimmering lavender dress covered in sequins that highlighted her cleavage.

Emily Ratajkowski and Lily James had some of the most revealing outfits of the red carpet arrivals, so it was fitting that they would end up together inside the venue.

The model and actress chatted with Donatella Versace, who wore a dress complementing Lily’s look.

Gigi Hadid also dropped by and added a splash of color to their gray–blue ensembles. 

Cardi B was more covered up but no less glamorous in her gold gown. She was seen hanging out inside the event with Teyana Taylor, who wore a voluminous purple gown, and Cara Delevingne, who went topless under a red blazer and was covered with gold paint and pasties.

They were also joined by Zola director Janicza Bravo, who looked cool in a black tux.

Nicki Minaj put on a busty display in her black off-the-shoulder dress while chatting with La La Anthony and Rosalía.

Near the stage, Janelle Monae paid tribute to 1920s style with her black-and-white striped sequined dress, though she added an edgier touch with her unshaven underarms. She looked as if she was concentrating on the music while holding hands with Naomi Campbell.

Tessa Thompson wasn’t afraid to make a spectacle of herself while showing off her enormous tiered pink tulle dress. 

The Thor: Ragnarok actress was beaming ear-to-ear as she spoke with Karlie Kloss, who towered over her.

The catwalk star contrasted her bubblegum pink ensemble with a stunning black lace look. 

There were plenty of other acclaimed actors at the gala including Emma Stone, who posed for a sweet photo with Succession star Kieran Culkin. Dakota Johnson also showed off her soft smile while posing with Jared Leto, who was surprisingly dressed down compared to his 2019 outfit, which featured his own severed head.

Hugh Jackman looked more traditional than many of the attendees in his classic evening jacket, and he was matched in black by his wife Deborra-Lee Furness.

Among the performers on Monday night was Jon Batiste, who initially looked dashing in a black tuxedo with shawl lapels when he hit the red carpet.

He showed off the elegant velvet jacket while posing inside the ballroom with Katy Perry, who wore a white mini dress covered in black lace.

But Jon switched into a playful white marching band uniform while playing a melodica, a small keyboard that’s played by blowing through it across a reed while pressing the keys.

He seemed to be totally engaged as he took a break from the performance to chat with comedian Amy Schumer. 

Some of the guests were content to just relax at their tables, including Megan Thee Stallion. She showed off her glowing gold off-the-shoulder outfit while chilling with Moschino Creative Director Jeremy Scott, West Side Story star Ariana DeBose and Pose star Michaela Jaé Rodriguez.

While they looked as if they were recharging their batteries, Chloë Grace Moretz looked vivacious as she embraced the South Korean model HoYeon Jung and American-born Chinese Olympic Olympic skier Eileen Gu.

Several celebrities posed for the cameras once they reached the top of the staircase.

Sara Sampaio showcased her pert derriere and lower-back cutout while posing in her glittering gold gown.

Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch put put on a busty display in her rippling yellow skirt and crop top. She was joined by the singer–songwriter Maggie Rogers, who stunned in a sheer top with a black sequined skirt.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, also known as the Met Gala, is considered by many as the ‘Super Bowl of celebrity red carpets.’

Fashion’s biggest night is traditionally held the first Monday in May to raise money for the Costume Institute in New York City, with last year’s event moved to September due to the pandemic. 

This year’s dress code is ‘gilded glamour’ to match the theme of ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion,’ a continuation of last year’s ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.’

Tickets for the glitzy event can reportedly cost up to $35,000 apiece, while prices for a table range from $200,000 to $300,000, with last year’s bash raking in a  whopping $16.4 million for the Met’s Costume Institute.

Regina King, power couple Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, and Lin-Manuel Miranda are hosting this time, taking over from Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman and Naomi Osaka. 

This will be Miranda’s first time as a Met Gala co-chair (and guest) but he was originally intended to co-host the 2020 edition before the pandemic forced its cancellation. 

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is once again supervising the benefit as chairwoman, a position she’s held since 1995. Her fellow honorary co-chairs are designer Tom Ford and Instagram head Adam Mosseri. 

As usual, the sartorial theme comes from the exhibit the gala launches: ‘In America: An Anthology of Fashion,’ which is the second of star curator Andrew Bolton’s two-part show exploring the roots of American style.

This exhibit will showcase some lesser-known designers, and also some top film directors, including Sofia Coppola, Martin Scorsese, host King, and last year’s Oscar winner Chloé Zhao.

Bolton said eight directors will create what he called ‘cinematic vignettes’ in the period rooms of the American Wing of the museum. 

Similar to the September event, there will be 400 guests this year, lower than the pre-pandemic highs of 500-600 attendees. 

The other four are Ford, the celebrated fashion designer who’s also an acclaimed film director, Janicza Bravo (Zola), Julie Dash (Daughters Of The Dust) and Autumn de Wilde (who directed the Jane Austen adaptation Emma. and is also a photographer).

The first part of the exhibition will remain on display in the rooms of the Anna Wintour Costume Center, along with the second part, until September 5.

More than half the pieces in the opening exhibition will be rotated out and garments from designers not yet featured will go on display.

The Met Gala is a huge money-maker for the museum, and provides the Costume Institute with its main source of funding.
