Roommates, there have been new updates in the murder case for late rapper Young Dolph, who was gunned down on November 17th at Makeda’s Homemade Cookies on Airways Boulevard. According to Fox 13 Memphis, Memphis Police names 26-year-olds Devin Burns and Joshua Taylor as the latest persons of interest. Reports show Devin has a criminal history, and he is facing an unrelated active Aggravated Assault and Theft of Property charge, in the amount of $10,000-$60,0000. Currently, he has warrants out for his arrest. No other information has been listed for Joshua.
Regarding the other suspects, in January, Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith were arrested and charged with crimes relating to Dolph’s murder. If you recall, Judge Lee Coffee had given the men three weeks to hire an attorney to represent them in the murder case. Cornelius obtained an attorney in February, and Justin was assigned a court-appointed attorney after being unable to afford one independently.
At the time, Justin asked for more time to allow his family to hire an attorney, but Judge Coffee denied that request. The judge appointed attorney Juni Gangulli, who is no stranger to high-profile cases, to represent Justin.
Attorney Gangulli said he’s ready to take on the challenge of the murder case and said the best outcome would be to get an acquittal at trial. “Not everyone gets convicted,” he said.
The most recent suspect, Shundale Barnett, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals in Indiana last month. He was charged with being an accessory to helping Johnson flee from Memphis to Indiana and a criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder.
Both Justin and Cornelius will be back in court on March 24th. As of right now, no other information is available for Devin Burns and Joshua Taylor. Roommates, we’ll keep you updated as more info becomes available!
