Melissa Rivers shared that her thoughts have changed in regards to adopting a child at the age of 54.

On Sunday, the television host, who had previously expressed that she was ’80 percent there’ in moving forward to expand her family in her 50s,  provided an update on where she was in the adoption process.

‘A lot of people told me how incredibly difficult it would be for me to do,’ Melissa told host David Yontef on the Behind The Velvet Rope podcast.

She continued, ‘I’m over 50. I’m a single person…Yes, I’m sure I could make it work, but I’ve really come to the conclusion that I’m not sure it would be fair to a child.

‘You know, I’m not a hundred percent sure that it would be fair.’

However, the Fashion Police star went on to say that she had not completely ruled out the idea.

‘Am I completely out of the market? No,’ Melissa said.

‘But I don’t want to, you know, people are like, oh well you could do special needs and they’re giving them a wonderful life.

She added, ‘And I do think about that stuff, but I also think, is it really fair? Is it fair? That’s what it came down to. And everyone else, I was also told how difficult it would be for me to do.’

The New York native continued, ‘You have to check yourself and put someone else’s needs in front of what you or someone else, in front of what you want.

Melissa admitted that weighing the decision had taken an emotional toll on her.

‘Do I still want it? 100%. Do I think is the right thing to do. I’m not sure anymore. And believe me, I’ve cried a lot at nights with that realization.’

Last August, she said that she was leaning toward adopting a child and admitted that her mother Joan’s advice about retrieving eggs in her 30s still keeps her up at night.

During an interview on the Chanel In The City With Chanel Omari podcast, she explained has been thinking about giving a disadvantaged child a home ‘for a very long time’ and she now feels ready to be a mother again.

She revealed: ‘I am very close. I’ve been thinking about it for a very long time. I think about it for about six years now.

‘At certain times it feels like the absolute right decision, at certain times it doesn’t feel like the right decision. It’s obviously not something I’m taking lightly. I would say I’m about 80 per cent there.’

Melissa said there are a lot of factors that play into the decision including whether it is fair for a child to have an older parent.

She explained: ‘What really stops me is, you know, would it be fair for the for the child to have, unfortunately, a little bit of an older parent?

‘Not that there’s anything wrong with that, because I’m certainly very active and, you know, a goer! It is a lot to think about, there are a lot of very important things to think about. There’s few things I’m still grappling with.’

Melissa also revealed that her mother Joan – who died in September 2014 at the age of 81 – had advised her to freeze her eggs many years ago so she could get pregnant as an older woman before it was too late.

She said: ‘I wish I had listened to my mother, who wanted me to freeze my eggs when I was in my 30s, and I was like, “Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no!” Now, I’m like, “I should have done it.” But so be it.’

Reiterating her plan to adopt, she Melissa added: ‘I am very close to doing it, yes. There’s just a few things that still keep me up at night.’

Melissa had first revealed that she wanted to have another child on podcast Divorced Not Dead back in June.

She told host Caroline Stanbury at the time: ‘I would love to have another child. And I don’t feel like I need to be married to do that.

‘My girlfriends are like, “You lost your mind.” We’re all in the place in our lives where our children are all just getting out. They’re laughing. They’re like, “Really? You want to go through the stress of even getting into college again?” They’re like, “Do you really want to do this?”‘

Melissa reiterated that it is actually she wants to do and ‘would definitely adopt.’
