Hollywood royalty: Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd were in attendance at the dinner – the acting duo were married from 1960-1969
Jaya has already decided she wants to follow her mother’s footsteps into the acting profession but is being made to focus on her studies for the moment.
While on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Laura, 55, explained that her own experiences of becoming an actress at 11 have influenced her decision to make Jaya wait.
It comes after Laura made a surprise appearance in Taylor Swift’s latest music video for her song Bejeweled, from her new album Midnights.
The video was chock-full of celebrity appearances, with the Oscar winner joining the likes of the Haim sisters, make-up artist Pat McGrath, and record producer Jack Antonoff.

Donned in a lavish period costume Laura takes on the role of the Evil step mother to Taylor’s Cinderella style character.
The glamorous video follows the Getaway Car hitmaker, 32, as she goes from rags to riches and even slips into a sparkling corset for a burlesque routine in a large martini glass with Dita Von Teese.
She confessed to Ellen that ‘there is something very moving about’ her daughter’s desire to act as the career runs in the family.
Not only is Laura an Oscar-winning actress herself, but her parents Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd are also Oscar-nominated actors.
Laura shares Jaya with her ex-husband Ben Harper, with whom she also has a 20-year-old son called Ellery, who wants to be a musician like his father.
While on Ellen’s show Laura said of her daughter that ‘I’m so happy that she’s waiting and wants to go to school but really knows in her heart she wants to act.’
Laura, who has acted in multiple films with her own mother, said: ‘And maybe if she does we’ll end up having the privilege of working together one day.’
However Laura also disclosed that she was the one insisting that Jaya wait a little longer before venturing into the entertainment industry.
The actress acknowledged that Jaya ‘does often say: “You didn’t wait!” and yeah, basically, I make her wait.’
When Ellen asked if Laura wishes Bruce and Diane had made her wait, Laura considered the question and replied: ‘In a way.’
She added however that she ‘forced’ her parents to let her act, ‘and I lied and I pushed and I lied about age.’
