Jennifer Lopez is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Selena.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, the singer and actress, 52, shared a series of throwback photos and videos from the time she portrayed the late Queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla Perez.
“What a very special day … we’re celebrating 25 years of SELENA! 🌹,” she began in her caption.
“Today we celebrate and honor Selena’s legacy and music. This movie means so much to me … Selena and her family mean so much to me, and I was so lucky to be chosen to play her.”
Lopez continued, “I’ll never forget this time in my life and it’s an honor as an artist to have been part of the magic that is this movie ✨#SelenaMovie25 #SelenaQuintanilla @selenaqofficial.”
Part of Lopez’s post showed a 1997 interview she appeared in alongside Selena’s family — parents Abraham and Marcella Quintanilla and sister Suzette — on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
In the clip, the ‘On The Floor’ singer talked about how she prepared for the role that shot her to stardom.
“‘I was working on another movie at the time and in my trailer was music all day, videos all day, just to really absorb who she was,” she said.
“It was tough,” Lopez admitted, “but I knew I had a tough road ahead of me, from the second I got the role it was non-stop.
“It was nerve-wracking, but having them there and having them care about the project was a beautiful thing for me and I feel enriched by having them involved.”
Selena was released in March 1997. The biopic told the tragic story of the Texan-born singer who was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldívar in 1995 at the age of 23.
