How Oscar Isaac and Elvira Lind Flipped the Script in Thom Browne for the 2022 Met Gala

The energy in Oscar Isaac’s suite at the Pierre is surprisingly relaxed for someone attending their first Met Gala.

“This time we had no music, and it was kind of nice! We changed it up. We had a very calm, peaceful vibe. I ate a lot of pasta and we’re ready to go! Nothing says fashion like pasta!” the actor told Vanity Fair as he prepared to make his debut at the 2022 Met Gala alongside his filmmaker wife, Elvira Lind.

To prepare for fashion’s biggest night, Isaac and Lin worked with stylist Michael Fisher and Thom Browne to put a spin on traditional menswear. Fisher, who loves how Thom Browne has reinvented suiting, jumped at the chance to explore how the duo could be outfitted in tails.

A white tie dress code typically means over-the-top gowns and jewels for women and for men, coats with tails that hit the back of the knee, but for the Met Gala 2022, the couple opted for a role reversal. Lind wore tails, while Isaac donned a trompe l’oeil white tie and tailcoat dress. “I liked the idea of them switching roles, playing with the role reversal and playing with dimensions,” Fisher explained.

This collaboration between the actor and Thom Browne came after Isaac wore the brand to the Moon Knight premiere in March. “He saw me wearing one of his beautiful skirts and decided to invite us to his table and so I said ‘Well, can I wear another skirt-type thing? And this came to me — it’s a suit that’s been flattened to look like a dress. And it’s very fun, and it’s very beautiful,” Isaac said. “We’re big fans of Thom,” Lind added.
