One threat to that beautifully luxe finish was the humidity and wind in Florida, home to the Peltz family’s sprawling beachside estate, which served as the wedding venue. “Nicola actually has quite wavy hair—it has a lot of texture in it—so to make sure it’s protected from the humidity I’ve had her using the Virtue Restorative Mask all week,” he says. “One thing I’d say to all brides is that one of the most important parts of good hair is to ensure it is super-hydrated before the big day arrives.”
After that, it was all about prepping the hair with smoothing formulas, like Virtue’s Healing Oil and Un-Frizz Cream, to seal it in before doing a “really good blowout.” “The secret to perfect bridal hair is to use another source of heat after you’ve blow dried it,” Abergel says. “I used a large barrel curling iron to give it that high finish. I ran it over the hair and created little bends in it so her hair felt a bit more undone.” Meanwhile, Abergel’s assistants were tasked with doing Nicola’s bridesmaids’ hair. The inspiration? “A minimal ’90s Kate Moss.”
The new Mrs. Beckham’s bridal hair was always going to be a resounding success—Abergel has plenty of experience in this department. “I’m used to these big wedding moments for my girls—it was the same at Justin and Jessica’s wedding, and Anne Hathaway’s,” he says. The key to getting a bridal hair look right? “You don’t want to veer too far from who you are as a person—it’s about elevating their hair and celebrating the essence of who they are.”
Chanel makeup artist Kate Lee was inspired by Nicola’s natural beauty, and sought to amplify it when doing her makeup for the day. “We decided on a very fresh, natural look—barely-there but with a few interesting details that will pop under the veil,” she tells Vogue. “The intention was to accentuate her natural features, while adding a few modern, not-so-traditional details.” One of her go-to products for the look was Chanel’s Baume Essentiel Multi-Use Glow Stick in Pearlescent, which imparts a dewy sheen.
