15 Best Sweatpants for Women 2021 According to Vogue Editors

As fashion experts, Vogue staffers encounter all types of products, from luxury fashion to tech, beauty to basics. Yet few items inspire as many divergent opinions as sweatpants. Some editors prefer their loungewear swanky and oversized for the ultimate athleisure look, while others make the case for a relaxed fit and a low price—total relaxation. Then there is the camp who like more tailored or cropped-fit pieces that don’t wear as baggy as classic sweats. And when it comes to track pants, two of our editors happen to agree on retro styles and (of all colors!) slime green. If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s perfectly ok to wear whatever comfortwear you love in and out of the house.

The Get has helped you shop for everything from the best gift ideas to wardrobe essentials, and now we’re weighing in on some of the most comfortable loungewear and the best sweatpants to sport at the airport during travels, hanging out at home, or after indulgent holiday meals. Whatever option you choose, don’t be afraid to let loose—after all, comfort is the end goal.

I love the retro vibe of these Adidas x Wales Bonner sweatpants for hanging out with friends and family over the holidays.

I try to take a morning walk each day kick things off the literal right foot. Everlane’s track joggers have become part of my walking uniform, so I don’t have to think— I can quickly throw them on and head out into the morning. The slightly cropped hem looks nice paired with a white calf sock, white sneakers, and my wool overcoat. These sweats by Everlane are my way to feel somewhat polished, yet still comfortable before getting dressed for the day and heading to the office.

I love a track pant, and these sleek, navy ones from Tory Burch are polished enough for Thanksgiving dinner but comfortable enough for leftovers the next day.

I’m obsessed with my Suzie Kondi velour pants—they have the perfect high rise and cropped, curvy silhouette, without the bulk of traditional sweats. I wear mine with sneakers, but you could easily dress them up a bit with loafers or flats.

I like my sweatpants how I like the rest of my wardrobe, neutral! Roxy’s chalk-white joggers are the perfect anytime sweats– I actually love wearing them rolled up over bathing suits to the beach as much as I do on lazy days. The inside is the softest ever, and they’re only $45. When it comes to airport-style or winter days, I love to curl up in Madhappy’s classic black pair that’s a bit more substantial and heavier weight.

If I had to pick any joggers to wear, I’d look to Girlfriend Collective time and time again. Beyond the brand’s ethos around transparency, inclusivity, sustainability, I love the relaxed fit, cozy feel, and modern colorways available. Honestly, my goal now is to see if I could style them to wear in the office.

When it gets below 40 degrees in New York, I break out my Pangaia sweatsuit. It’s unimaginably comfortable. I have the red set, since it’s my favorite color, but for me, they’re really more “lying around the house” clothes than “going outside” clothes. For the latter, I would probably go for this dark green shade.

It’s remarkable how much those four white stripes can do.

You wouldn’t believe how soft Kule’s velour sweatpants are. Plus, what’s not to love about the cozy and retro look of them? The hardest part is picking a color!

I love a comfy, cute outfit, and The Attico’s oversized sweats are perfect for creating elevated, casual outfits. This green pair would look great with sneakers, and I’d even throw them on with some pumps during dressier moments.

I admittedly have been trying to stay away from sweatpants. Wearing them all throughout 2020 was enough. I’m good for a while. But, when I am in a comfy mood, on a lazy Sunday, I always go right to my Pangaia and Juicy Couture sweats.

I’m not a fan of New York’s harsh winters (despite living upstate for most of my life!), but I do love any excuse to hunker down in some cozy sweatpants. From walking my dog to binging Netflix, you will definitely find me wearing these cotton joggers all season long this year. The gorgeous mauve is the perfect pick-me-up when those winter blues hit.

Seems a little random, but if I’m wearing a pair of sweatpants, they’re usually these from Hatch Collection (“random” as, yes, Hatch is a maternity brand). I was gifted these when pregnant the first time around, and it’s the one maternity thing I continued to wear after my daughter was born—a strong statement as I happily loaned basically everything else to pregnant friends as soon as I could. I will probably purchase a second pair of them now that I’m pregnant a second time around, knowing I’ll keep them in the roster after the fact. The slight pleat at the top, tapered leg, and cuff at the bottom make them smarter than the average lounge pant and more flattering regardless of your size.

I love these sweatpants…cushy, cozy, and they have a handsome pant embroidered on them.
