12 Vogue Editors on the Best Beauty Moments at Couture SS22

Just when it felt like the January blues had gotten the best of us, Paris’s biannual Couture Fashion Week arrived. For spring/summer 2022, designers brought us color, drama and emotion.

As for the beauty, there were some breathtaking moments, from feathered lashes at Valentino to sci-fi embellishments at Fendi. Below, Vogue’s global network of beauty editors and directors highlight the best beauty looks from the spring/summer 2022 couture shows.

Jessica Diner, Global Network Lead, European Beauty & Wellness Director

“There is no question that my favorite couture beauty moment was the shimmering Schiaparelli tears created by none other than makeup maestro Pat McGrath. For me, the best beauty moments are the dramatic ones, and nothing sums up couture better than this level of artistry on the face.”

Celia Ellenberg, Global Content Lead Beauty & Wellness US

“There was so much to love at the couture shows this season (face sequins at Fendi! Next-level nails at Viktor & Rolf! The perfect oxblood lip at Valentino!), but I still can’t get over Pat McGrath’s crystal tears at Schiaparelli. That whole show was beyond, but McGrath’s ability to translate creative director Daniel Roseberry’s surrealist vision above the neck was truly something to behold.”

Tish Weinstock, Acting Digital Beauty Editor, British Vogue

“This season, there were some incredible hair moments: the gray hair at Valentino, the high ponytails at Giambattista Valli, and the floor length braids at Jean Paul Gaultier.”

Frédérique Verley, Beauty & Wellness Editor-in-Chief Vogue Paris

“Firstly, the feather eyelashes at the Valentino couture show—a new kind of poetic eyeliner that came alive to the rhythm of the girls’ steps. And then there was the casting; models of all ages illustrated the notion of diversity that is very dear to Pierpaolo Piccioli. Secondly, the theatrical and dramatic glitter tears created by Pat McGrath for the Schiaparelli show by Daniel Roseberry. Both looks were truly spectacular.”
