12 Team USA Athletes to Watch at the Beijing Winter Olympics

If you’re curious about who to keep your eye on from Team USA at this year’s Beijing Winter Olympics, know first that it promises to be one of the most exciting lineups in recent memory.

There are veteran legends like halfpipe snowboarder and three-time gold medallist Shaun White, or the 37-year-old bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor, who will need to complete her quarantine after a last-minute COVID diagnosis just in the nick of time if she hopes to top her previous achievements of two silvers and a bronze.

There are new kids on the block, like Maame Biney who made history as the youngest skater and first Black woman to compete for the U.S. in short track speed skating at Pyeongchang in 2018, or Chloe Kim, whose record-breaking performance at the age of 17 at the previous Games sets her in good stead to take home the gold once again.

There are even a few wild cards in the mix: the 27-year-old halfpipe skier Alex Ferreira seeking his first gold, seasoned snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis looking to close out her impressive Olympics career with a spot on the podium, and luger Emily Sweeney, whose extraordinary road to recovery following a potentially fatal crash at the last Games is one of the most powerful stories of any Olympian competing this year.

As we gear up for three thrilling weeks of skating, skiing, snowboarding, and everything in between, here are all the athletes you need to know competing for the U.S. at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
